Past, present & future investments

Sometimes when im at uni in my tutes, you know those really boring ones. I phase out completely and delve in the past. Call me counterproductive, its not that I hold onto the past per se, rather I like to look back and reflect on how far ive come and contrast it with my life now. Seeing what ive learnt about my character and how i've developed in that time.

#sodeep

I think its good - *cough way of procrastinating* haha

Recently I was taken aback to the days of high school. Now that I think about it, not that long ago I was in year twelve and even though its only been two years since then, in a matter of months I will be going out on clinical placements too; prescribing REAL treatments and rehab exercises to REAL patients.

Side note: Im kinda glad im studying physio. Reassuring to know that at least I cant really kill someone with exercise. Haha

And to think that some of my friends wil be graduating next year and will be out working in the real world soon after. How absurd is that?!
Thats so cool.

-
But at the same time, I feel for people who dont really know what they want to do or are unsure of where their course will take them. Iono so many people I know are so fixated on this endgame strategy which is to graduate from their course quickly so they can enter the workforce, earn money and move on with their next stage in life.

I was talking to my friend C. the other day and we were talking about how much we enjoyed our courses and the aspects of it we hated.

It then occured to me, the fact that we as students actually spend so little time studying in the fields that we hope or anticipate we will be working in in the future. For an area which we will be stuck in for at least 30-35 years, 4-5 years is like nothing.

My moral? I dont know. But for what its worth, it would probably be worthwhile spending a little more time in uni making an investment in discovering the things you really enjoy even if that means changing courses over and over and over again.

Don't you think?

Choo.

Today i'm...

Irritated: Because we still have 2 weeks of uni. What else could there possibly be to learn? ugh. I'm pretty sure all other unis have finished. #latrobe .sigh.

Relieved: That my oral presentation is over! The presentation was a evidence-based synthesis of recommendations for a 2-week exercise plan for a case profile involving a Diabetic woman called Cheryl who worked ridiculous hours and had a BMI of 31.
I was actually super anxious about it because my group was completely not on the ball with putting together the powerpoint and it was quite frustrating because I felt the rest of the team were not really contributing to discussions. Unsurprisingly, our final product was rushed, last minute and ill-planned.
I was really nervous about it on Sunday night about presenting the following day because the groups which preceeded us in the previous week had set the benchmarks for their presentations very-very-very high. The people we were presenting to were also a tough crowd.
The most nerve-wracking part of the presentation was not the information presentation itself, but the 15 minute open question time which followed. I guess, with the amount of preparation we had done, can't say I was feeling to comfortable about it. ストレス!

BUT. I think we did the bullshitting part of the presentation pretty well. phew.

The tutor was concerned we might have set the volume of exercise too high at the beginning.
6/7 days of exercise in Week 1. Pfft.
How else are you going to get your BMI down if there is no exercise?!
- but yeah, I have to agree, I would not have given two craps about doing the exercise program if there were that many days on. HAH.

Jealous: That my sister is leaving for Japan for 3 months in a matter of days!

Lonely: It's going to be weird not seeing her face around every day.

Happy: Because it means I get full reign of my sister's closet while she's gone. MUAHAHAHA. And it also means I nolonger need to be protective over my peanut butter. #damnstraight

Encouraged: One of the younger girls from church which I have taken to exchanging letters with, in her latest letter to me described how she came back from a youth camp with her friend and had a revamped perspective as to the reason why she was Christian. I was feeling so happy while reading it, because I guess it was a really good reminder of just how much power, hope and freedom there is in the Gospel - something which I sometimes often forget.

Ugh. Emotions.
So much feels.

Only a quick post today.
Waking up early for some more learning about pilates.

mmm. core and pelvic floor exercise.
lovely

Physios x Mount Dandenong

I completely forgot that my physiology online quiz closes today, so I woke up at 6:30 this morning to cram and complete it.
ugh. biggest waste of my time.

-
Despite the ridiculously cold weather, a group of us from uni made a trip up to Mt Dandenong to take on the newer trail at 1000 steps.

such a good workout for your calves.

I've been a few times before but it's always fun to go with a different crowd.

Anyways, side story:
Turns out the girl's car was the first to arrive at the track and fter a few phone calls, we later found out people were still around 30 mins away. So in our laziness, we stayed in the parking lot and just stared at the people walking past us in the parking lot.
Then out of no where we noticed a guy trying to run up the wall of the Kokoda Track Walk entrance gate. (see picture below) We were all laughing hysterically at him because at first we couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing. We then hypothesised that maybe he had intentionally left something up on the ledge and was trying to retrieve it.
But we were so wrong. For the next 3 minutes we watched in horror, screaming every 30 seconds in anticipation of what he was going to do next as he progressed higher and higher atop the entrance before going walk across the top of the structure and jumping back down onto the ground.

it was craaaaaaaaaay.
I wonder if he could actually hear the 5 of us screaming in our car....

After that the others arrived and we filled them all in on the pre-trail entertainment they'd all missed because they came late.

And so we set off.
We started off as a massive group, but eventually Zoe, Ernie and I had broken off to go ahead because the others were walking toooo slowly.

The end of the trail was quite anti-climatic. You go up the last stretch of the track on that massive incline of a slope and get to the top expecting some spectacular view. But no. You reach the top and it's just this stretching station and you be like:

Oh, that's it?

Not even a 'YOU COMPLETED THE 1000 STEPS TRAIL' sign.
Ah well we took a commemorative photo anyway.

cute.

-
The guys in the group had spontaneously decided the night before that it would be a good idea to have a BBQ.  So that's what we did.
The girls didn't even have to organise anything. It was so great. haha.

BBQ-ing sausages and burgers in a park while kicking around a footy.
Most bogan group of asians out.

Much fun.
By 1pm it got pretty cold and started raining so we decided to go for some hot choc at knox before going our separate ways home.

Housewarming / Birthdays / SummerProject

Monday: Sannie's Housewarming / JubJub's Surprise Birthday

The Paperkites concert had completely screwed over our sleeping patterns over the weekend so we never went to the Gym on Sunday morning.
Instead we went to the BodyPump group exercise at MARC on Monday morning.
Boy, I have never felt pain in my thighs like that - ever

In the afternoon I headed over to Sannie's early with Judith and Wynne for her housewarming bbq /Judith's surprise birthday.
It was really nice to see some old faces - oh how I miss you all.
There was also a crapload of meat at the BBQ and Judith made her trademark Tiramasu. mmmmm.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures that night, but look to Eddie's Blog in future because i'm sure that he will post about it at somestage...

We also played this game on the iPhone called: 'Heads up Charades' which was an interesting take on the standard charades/taboo. Heiman and Caf were HILAROUS
Makes me so aware of how much I do not know about pop culture. hahaha

Tuesday: Kinfolk & Girls Hangout / Emme's Birthday

The girls from church hadn't hung out in a while so holidays was a good opportunity to catch up and hang. Also Emmie's birthday was coming up so we decided to kill all the birds with one stone.

Christine had been talking about going to this pretty nifty cafe called KINFOLK in the city along bourke/spencer street for ages and today we finally got to go.

You should all go check it out.

It's a pretty unique place in that it's a social enterprise where people who work there are volunteers and 100% of the profits made go towards one of 4 humanitarian development projects both within and outside Australia.

Pretty cool eh?

I have always been a supporter of organisations doing something different in promoting social change and driving humanitarian projects. Who would have thought that opening a cafe operated by volunteers in the city would be such a good idea to not only create an awareness but to also raise funds for projects. How ingenius. The think-tanks behind initiatives like these are really awe inspiring - makes me kinda wish I was more gifted creatively. Oh the things I would do if I could...

Anyways, back to the food.
They have quite an interesting menu in that they have a very limited set of dishes
e.g soup, open sandwich, platter, risotto etc.
But the interesting thing is, the ingredients used in the dishes changes everyday - So you never get bored of the food whenever you eat there!

Top to Bottom
1: Risotto (forgot what it was) with pork prosciutto
2: Lunch Platter: Bali salad, spiced pumpkin soup and ricotta, roquet and caramelised onion sandwich
3: Home beans with fetta and toasted sourdough
4. Origin Coffee - This was really nice too

Many instagram posts were made in that hour.

In terms of pricing, it was quite standard around $10 - $13 for lunch and probably around $4 for coffee. When we went to the cafe, it was already quite packed but we were lucky that we didn't have to wait for long before the super friendly and welcoming wait staff cleared a table for us.
Overall I think we were all quite impressed at how unexpectedly hearty and flavorsome the food was as well. The added fact that we were making contributions to humanitarian efforts made it all the more likable.

Would definitely go again.

Afterwards we met up with Henrietta for cakes and coffee at Brunettis @ Lygon
I know, so much money spent today, theoretically I should be broke by now. But hey, it's cake.

We shared an assortment of cakes.
Here are some pictures.
Bel and I shared and ice chocolate, it was quite pricey and by the end of it i couldn't tell whether I was still drinking chocolate or cream.

These girls are all so funny, servant-hearted and on fire for God, I feel super blessed to have them as friends. It's always good fun catching up with them whenever we have the chance :)

-
Afterwards, April and I headed to a meeting to brief on and to meet the rest of the students from RMIT, Melb Uni, Latrobe and Deakin who we'll be partnering with on the upcoming Schoolies Summer Project in Lorne.

Some of you may or may not be aware but last year, I had the opportunity to work with a team of 30 or so Uni students from around Victoria and NSW who headed down to Lorne to partner with the local bayside council and other organisations during the 'schoolies' period to run drop-in centre - better termed "The Droppo"; for schoolies to come and talk to people about things they were going though and/or to just chill in a drug&alcohol free zone away from the partying over the two week period.

The last time I went on the project, a random girl on the beach had jokingly asked if I was a 'toolie' and what we were doing there. I thought I would just share my response.

"I'm part of this Christian group at my Uni called StudentLife - so obviously i'm Christian. But I think it's really important to share about who Jesus is and to be challenged to exercise this faith I believe in. And so yeah. On this StudentLife project, one of the ways in which we do that is by volunteering time over our holidays to hang out with Schoolies and to be really challenged to show love to complete strangers, to be that friend and to serve and look out you guys over the two weeks that you're here."

Yeah, so I think that pretty much (in an abridged version) sums up what we did over there.

Last year was a super eye-opening experience and i feel super privileged to be able to go again this year.
And so it begins
Cannot wait.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let you light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" - Matt 5:14-16
